Summertime Refreshment: Pomegranate Lemonade
Several summers ago, mid-July, my husband and I were in Las Vegas, walking around the strip in the blistering heat. We dipped into the Neiman Marcus restaurant (NM Café) for a light lunch and enjoyed a glass of their Pomegranate Lemonade. It was so perfectly sweet, sour, and refreshing all at the same time; I’ve been trying to reverse-engineer it ever since.
I’ve come pretty close and have even riffed-on it with some alternate flavors and syrups.
Here’s the basic recipe:
Pomegranate Lemonade
- Pomegranate Syrup (Torani is good.)
- Lemonade or Limeade
- Sparkling Mineral Water (Gerolsteiner is my favorite; San Pellegrino is good, too.)
- Ice
- Optional: Sliced lemon, lime, fresh raspberries, strawberries, and/or mint
It’s basically a third of each. For an 8 ounce glass:
- 1/3 cup syrup
- 1/3 cup lemonade/limeade
- 1/3 cup Sparkling Mineral Water
Stir and serve over ice. You’ll want to adjust to taste- If it’s a bit too sour, add more syrup. If it’s too sweet, add more juice.
This recipe can be changed-up in a variety of ways, with other flavors of syrups.
(Marionberry or Huckleberry are shown in the pictures, but there are many others to choose from. World Market has a nice selection.) For a sweeter alternative, instead of sparkling water, substitute lemon-lime soda. And of course, if you’re looking for an adult drink, a splash of vodka, rum, or tequila would do the trick.
Stay well and be safe.
Here’s to summer.
