enmarie® at Home Beauty Secret #3: Honey Face Mask

The ancients prized honey as a beauty tonic since it never needed any preservatives to keep it from spoiling. Both prominent and historical beauties are noted to have used it on both their skin and/or hair, from Cleopatra to Nero's wife, Poppea, Madame du Barry to Queen Ann. Of course, there are literally thousands of commercial beauty products containing honey. But you can enjoy the beauty-enhancing benefits of honey in your own home. It's easy, albeit the stickiest at-home face mask.

There are rows and rows of honey to choose from. These photos were taken at Whole Foods.

If you really want to splurge, you can select Manuka Honey, from New Zealand, which is said to have even more medicinal benefits.

I found that it's a good idea to sit still, or perhaps lie down upon applying the honey- as depending upon the viscosity, it may drip off your face.  Allow it to remain on for 10-15 minutes, then either wipe off first with tissue and/or rinse with warm water and pat dry.
